    Fashion Show outfits

It’s our 2nd year working the runway for the Daniela Jay Fashion boutique and I’m so proud of Livvy, who patiently waited backstage for 2 hours like a pro for her turn on the catwalk! We both wore Molly Bracken outfits, and met new friends while making mommy and me memories I’ll cherish forever. Here’s a look at this year’s matching fits, and an added pic from 2022 to see how much my mini me has grown.

Find all our outfits by sending a DM to @Danielajayfashion on instagram.

She’s a natural in Mini Molly Bracken

Will live in this jean jumper all summer long.

The star of the show, Olivia.

From last year’s show…she’s so much taller now, and really worked that runway.

    Best hair growth system

For me, dancing in the moonlight is feeling my best and feeling good about the health of my hair. No major hair loss was experienced after having my first baby, but after having my second, I noticed quite a bit. After connecting with other moms about their hair loss journey, and seeing a dermatologist, I still wanted a haircare system that worked for my fine, yet full hair to help strengthen and regrow it. Something I’ve never shared is that not only did I breastfeed both babies, but I breastfed them both until they were each 2 and a half years old.

The day Ogden, my first was born, that was it. Not only was I in love, but wanted to do whatever was best for him and whatever worked best for us together. Breastfeeding came natural, and so natural that I did it and loved the closeness between mother and baby that we had. When Livvy was born, I was still breastfeeding Ogden because I didn’t know how to quit, it was emotional, and I had already experienced mastitis, which was painful. On the day Olivia was born, the same natural closeness and bonding happened with her that had happened with my first.

After Livvy turned 3 at the end of 2020, she weaned naturally, and that’s when I experienced more hair loss than ever before. My hair was feeling weak and I noticed more breakage, so I started looking for a solution. Although the postpartum and breastfeeding hair loss journey is a process that is inevitable, I found Meaningful Beauty Age-Proof hair care system and after the first wash, have noticed such a difference in the look and feel of my hair in the strength, the shine, and over all volume. Hair care routines are as important as skin care routines and I’m so grateful I’ve found my heaven on earth, so look for me dancing in the moonlight just to show off my hair.

Best hair clips for thick hair

Beauty Claw LA + Iris Corliss

It’s heeeereeee….you have no idea how excited I am! This collab is just the most beautiful collection of quality hair clips, or claws I should say, from the colors to the names of each one, they really are just so pretty. My hair really needed a break from rubber bands, even the ones that don’t break your hair. I love a good ponytail, but the clips have saved my hair from breakage I was seeing. The best thing about these beauties truly is the quality. Much different than clips that break easily, there is an added clear layer to the prong that allows much more usage.

Our mini photo shoot took place on the tennis courts of my neighborhood, and I must say, the owner of Beauty Claw LA, Julissa, is a natural behind and in front of the camera! We had such a fun time showing off our collab “claws” that I think I need to collab again asap. Being from Florida and growing up on the beach, I had to come up with some fun names that meant something to me, and somehow these names just came to me: “Purple Coquina” is the little shell you most commonly find on the shore of the beach that are tiny and have that purple shine on the inside. “Iridescent Nacre” is also a shell with a mother of pearl look to it, one that I’d find on the Gulf Coast and collect since I was little. “Blonde Honeysuckle” just made sense with it’s wavy blonde and white design. “Blue Iris” was an obvious choice, and I’m especially in love with this color since my son’s middle name is Blue.

Really hope you love these hair savers/clip claws as much as I do. The link to Beauty Claw LA’s Etsy is in my instagram bio. Thanks for stopping by!

Fool around with Tom Foolery LA.

The “Gamechanger” jumper by Tom Foolery LA in white with blue and green print created by Grace, Malindi Kenya/jumper designed by Shannon Ashford.
Tie waist for easy restroom access…drop seat jumper is a game changer, hence the name.
Vibrant, unique colors that can be oh so neutral.
cozy and casual….kid tested, mother approved
    Marilyn moments
Dress up or dress down, heels, sneakers, or sandals.
perfect for a glamorous cat nap

Yeah, I said it…go ahead…fool around a little…with Tom Foolery, the most innovative brand of jumpsuits. I promise you won’t regret it. Have you ever been to the bathroom in a jumper only to realize that you essentially have to get fully undressed in a public restroom? It’s really annoying and takes way longer to get redressed, which means you’re making your significant other wait way too long. What’s worse is missing out on that 2nd cocktail ordering with the ladies and will now have to wait for the server to come back. Even more annoying is that you may have missed out on the group pic…and that’s a real tragedy.

Introducing…(drum roll)…the drop seat jumper! How does it drop you ask? I’ll tell ya: simply untie the knot or bow in front and the bottom half drops down, leaving the top fully on…brilliant! Why do I feel like this jumper makes me the woman I always wanted to be? Could it be my love for all things innovative in fashion and design? Yes!…and this drop seat jumper is as inventive as that little wrap dress by DVF. Shannon Ashford, mastermind behind the drop seat jumper, and Southern California native, has created a womanly, classic, comfortable, design that really shows off your curves while still leaving a little to the imagination.

The first time I met Shannon, was at an event in L.A. where she was showing her jumpers. Instantly I liked her, and then tried one of her jumpers on, the “Misfit”…I fell in love. The “Misfit” is an almond colored dropseat jumper that has long sleeves, and is flowy throughout the leg, much like the “Gamechanger” I’m wearing above… only more covered on the chest for that evening wear look. Tom Foolery LA has many different versions of the dropseat jumper with black and more of a skinny leg, navy, white, gray, and on and on. I swear it’s my all time favorite article of clothing in my closet. It’s the most “me” outfit I own.

The gorgeous prints you see on the “Gamechanger’ are made by female graduates of Heri Sewing College in Kenya, and the print I’m wearing was given to Shannon as a gift by Grace, a graduate of the sewing school who is a huge inspiration to girls that attend the school. Since graduating, Grace has opened up her own sewing shop, bought her own property, built her home, invested in livestock, bought a second property, married a man of her own choosing, and she is the breadwinner of her family. All of the things Grace has accomplished are very rare where she is from. She is truly an inspiration! The material of these stunning jumpers are 50% cotton and 50% recycled plastic bottles collected in Port Au Prince, Haiti .

When I wear one of Tom Foolery’s jumpers, something truly magical happens…I feel like the best version of myself. Also, knowing that I’m contributing to another woman feeling like the best version of herself, makes me to want to buy a million more. Every fifty jumpers sold by Tom Foolery LA, gifts a scholarship to Heri Sewing College and offers opportunities for women to live autonomously. I’m so happy to support Tom Foolery LA because it stands for equal opportunities for women. Truly, this jumper is so cozy that I could live in it.

    Our Love Story, Part 1

First time meeting his friends, in the Florida Keys

Today’s the exact date we actually hung out for the first time.  We knew each other’s faces but never actually met.  He worked the door, and I worked the bar. It’s our love story, and I’ve never actually written it down, but replayed it hundreds of times in my mind.  If it were a movie, it would be my favorite.

First Picture together, after dating a few weeks
Stealing kisses, and selfies before it was a thing

This love story starts out in a night club in Orlando, Florida, called Roxy. Justin and Britney has just broken up, and Justin and his crew frequently made appearances in this club. The fashion of the early 2000’s was in full effect.  From butterfly mini clips and silver lipstick, to mini crop tops and low rise flare jeans, I rocked it all, but put my own all black or all white spin on it, and my celeb crush, Justin Timberlake, was the only look I’d go for when it came to dating.

First 4th of July, but not the first fireworks 💥 🤍
He worked with kids part time, my heart

My plans were to get a job for a few months to save up, and move to L.A. to be an actress.  You know that great feeling of not needing or even wanting a boyfriend? Yeah, that’s where I was in my mind, and it felt so good.  If a guy even looked my way, I knew he liked me, but they’d have to get in line, or take a number.

First dinner out with his parents, where is this top?
Back home from LA, seeing all our friends
His modeling days, I don’t think they’re over

This club, Roxy, we worked in, had twelve bars, six upstairs and 6 downstairs.  There were a few door guys, or “bouncers” that worked the door each night, and there two bartenders to each bar, a pretty large club. It was like showtime every time I worked.  You had to be “on”, dressed up, flirting with customers, pouring drinks and taking cash or cards.  Guess how much I knew about how to make drinks…zero, zip, zilch, nada.  Guys would come up to me and ask for a kamikaze, or a hurricane, or a chocolate cake shot, and I would mix liquor together hoping they would just roll with it…and yay, they did! The less I knew about a drink, the cuter they thought I was and the more cash they would tip. This was a great gig for my big plans.

He surprised me for our 3 month anniversary and took me up in a twin engine overlooking Disney’s fireworks

Each night, before the club opened I was in charge of finding bar candles and lighters.  One night, when I couldn’t find them, I asked a bar manager, who’s name I didn’t know, and didn’t care to know (because all I cared about were my big plans) where I might find the candles, and noticed he seemed so intense, like, lighten up dude! His name was Marc, and my first words to him were, “You need to smile more.”, in my charming, sweet, southern, flirty way, of course.

That night, was Saturday, April 18th, 2002.  We started our shift at 7pm, and ended it at 3am.  Marc came up to my bar that night and started talking to me with some other managers.  He decided to ask for a Grey Goose Orange on the rocks, so I made him Grey Goose with orange juice and ice.  He looked at it like, what is this? I said, “Just what you asked for, Grey Goose Orange, on the rocks, that’s $9”.  He didn’t know what to say, and comped it.

Later that night, once the club was full and the music was blaring, Marc came back to my bar, and we started talking. He told me about how he had been away for a few weeks after spraining his finger breaking up a club fight, and that was the reason for his beard.  Remember, beards weren’t the thing for twenty something’s, and if you didn’t have a baby face like Justin, it wasn’t happening.  After telling me a little about his ex girlfriend, I realized he had a kind demeanor, and wasn’t as intense, once he opened up.
Around three a.m., it was closing time, and I was heading home.  Marc called me, asking me to hang out at his place. The first thing I thought was, “Is this guy crazy?! He thinks I’m like that?” At first I said no, then he persisted by asking what I would need if I came over. For some reason I said a toothbrush.  A toothbrush? He said ok, and that sealed the deal.  I was on my way.

As soon as I pulled up to his apartment, in Winter Park, which is the ritziest part of Orlando, I thought to myself, that’s it, I’m dead, kidnapped, etc. He was waiting outside of his Melrose Place looking apartment complex, and I went with my gut, and we stayed up talking for hours and hours.  One of the things he said to me, after I told him my big plans to move to L.A., was that you can do whatever you want wherever you are, it doesn’t have to be in another place for you to do it, or be successful at it.  He showed me modeling pictures of himself, and all that he a had accomplished in Miami as a model. He even modeled in YM magazine, which was very impressive to me.  He let me sleep in his bed, and he slept on the couch, such a gentleman. We walked to brunch the next morning, and on Sunday, he asked me out on a proper date set for Monday.

Did you keep a journal when you were 20 or 21?  I did, and I had written in one since I was 13.  Over the years from 13 to 21, I wrote down all my thoughts and feelings, things that happened that were a big deal to me with boyfriends, friends, and often what I wanted in the future.  When I moved to Orlando at 19, from Panama City, Florida, I started writing more. Cutting pictures out of magazines of what I wanted, a mini vision board, and taping them in my journal, I was manifesting  all of my dreams.  I found a picture of a young guy in a magazine, with all the features I was attracted to.  Blue eyes, dark brown hair, and those model good looks. Also, I wrote about who he was on the inside.  My list was long, and detailed, and I wrote this when I was about 19, or 20.  I also wrote this: The guy that brings Iris flowers on our first date, is the guy I’m going to marry.

Two days after our first hang out, it was time for our first date. He called me Sunday to make sure he could pick me up on Monday around 7pm for dinner.  As I was getting ready, I looked out my window downstairs, and could see him walking up to the door, with purple flowers, Iris flowers.  My mind flashed back to the year before when I wrote it down.  It was God, telling me that this is him.  I couldn’t believe it and no, I didn’t tell him on the date, I waited a few years for that.

We went to a huge restaurant in Orlando Universal City Walk, a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.  Marc led me up to an empty bar, very far down from the bartender, and after he asked me what I’d like to drink, he started to sweat a little.  At first, I didn’t understand why he was so far away, and then it hit me, this guy doesn’t do this often! Oh my gosh! How sweet and refreshing! He’s not a player! Only a player would walk right up to a bartender and order the right drink for the girl with all the confidence in the world! Hallelujah! He’s a keeper!  I had dated my fair share of players, and could spot one a mile away.  We got our drinks, sat down at our table, ordered dinner, talked and talked, and when we were outside, I realized this guy is not going to kiss me, even though he wants to, I’m going to have to kiss him, and I did.  Fireworks went off, in our heads.

We continued to hang out, go on dinner dates, and see each other at Roxy after 8pm, when work started.  It was secret that we were dating, which made it so much fun.  His football number from high school, was 33, so I found a small iron on and wore it on my school girl bartender outfit that first week after our first kiss. He saw it, and his eyes, that reaction, so cute.  Keeping it secret, but teasing him at work with those little gestures and hints for all to see was such a fun time. He would get a rose for me from rose ladies out front, and bring it to my bar, and then he would walk around the club acting goofy, goofy and in love.

Needless to say, my plans to move to L.A. were on pause, because, hello, I was in love.  We talked, and waited, but decided to move together to L.A. the next year.  Both of our parents supported our decision to move and go after our dreams.

The following April, Marc drove to L.A. with his Dad, while I waited at home to hear he had found an apartment.  Then it was my turn, I said bye to my mom and sisters, and hoped on a plane to live the life of my dreams, with the man I knew I would be with forever, after all, I had manifested it in my journal all these years. It was destiny.

We have been together since today, 2002, living the life of our dreams, and manifesting new ones everyday. If you read this, it’s part one of our love story.  Stay tuned for part two, on April 23rd, our wedding anniversary.

    Olivia Bale, Tea for 2!

Ever since July, when we attended the Langham, Pasadena’s Trolls Tea Party, where she met Princess Poppy, she has woken up every morning asking if it’s her birthday party yet! She loved the tea party so much, that I knew we had to have the same theme for her birthday. (you can see the Langham Trolls Tea Party video on my youtube channel YouTube.com/Irisjoycorliss and also there’s a post here on my blog).

This last picture is my favorite picture of Livvy and I at her “Tea for 2” themed party. Yes, my hair fell in the right place, and yes my skin is looking good, but most of all, Livvy is exhausted from so much fun! Score! Mission accomplished.

My sister, Mary, not to be confused with my work wifey, Mary, flew in from San Fran for the party to be the photographer. Some of the sweetest pics are of Livvy with her Daddy waiting for Princess Poppy to arrive. Also, love my baby girl in her Tutu Dreams dress.

The party decor details were all a visual in my head, and of course in your head, they are much larger than life. The weather was beautiful all week, and the weather app showed a perfect sunny day for Livvy’s party. We live in an area that can be super windy out of nowhere, and it was, yep, super windy.

A lot of my ideas that included outdoor decor, like the dessert table, the tea party table set for adults, and for the kids table, had to stay inside as a buffet due to the wind. We brought out some of the desserts quickly for pictures, but had to run them right back inside. But HEY, sometimes less is more. 😉

Cake pops are always a good idea, and much easier to eat than cupcakes. Our Trolls themed cake pops are from Densonios Cake Pops, made by Lily. She made Poppy, Branch, and Guy Diamond cake pops and they were such a hit at the party, I should have ordered more! Check her out on instagram, she even has the Pearson kids from This Is Us enjoying her delicious cake pops!

The beautiful naked cake you see with flowers and a teapot, teacup, saucer and flower spoon, was made by yours truly! The cake was a two layer boxed white cake with each layer covered in buttercream frosting from Ralph’s. Practicing the cake twice before the party weeks before, I had it perfected to taste, color, and look. The cake tests I made were tested out by Oggy, Livvy, Daddy and our bestie 13 year old neighbor, Dylan who joked, he didn’t like the cake at all, HE LOVED IT!

Umbrellas are such a simple and cool idea for events. Seeing some baby shower decor pics on Pinterest, on tables as center pieces, I felt like our white pergola would be the perfect spot to have a bunch of hanging umbrellas. The umbrellas were so pretty and added an element of sweet and pretty feels. Mary and I hung them the night before and I loved them so much I kept them up all week after the party. We also gave the umbrellas to our guests as party favors, which can be decorated with markers, paint, glue (not hot) and patches or stickers.

After searching high and low for hula hoops, I found one last brassy gold small hoop at Joann’s fabric and a giant pink iridescent hula hoop at Walmart which I wrapped both hoops on 2 “corners” with twine and hot glued flowers and greenery to to hang outside. After hot glueing wooden letters to hang from the hoops, “tea for 2” and the number “2” in each, I hung above the dessert table and one on a tree. They turned out so pretty we are hanging one above Livvy’s bed.

We found a character for kids company, which truthfully, I’m not going to recommend, due to a few minor details. :(. Thankful that Poppy showed up, the kids all had such a fun time dancing and playing with balloons, the wavy parachute, and just hearing all their fave songs like baby shark and the trolls soundtrack, which I’m still not sick of. 🙂

If there were a way to take the visions in my mind and make each one a reality, and at the right price…well, I’d be a trillionaire. Truly happy with how it all turned out, despite that dang wind, I’d say Livvy had a sweet Tea for 2.

Leave me a comment or ask me anything! I’d love to hear how you like the looks of it all!

    XX,

    Iris

P.S. We had Chic-fil-a catered, which stayed inside, and it was delish!
